It is essential to learn the history of the place to understand more about Yosemite and to know the impacts and influences it brought to its present status.

The Yosemite National Park History starts on the first settlers who have lived and died in the area. For over 8,000 years, Indian people have taken residence in the Yosemite Region. At the middle of the 19th century, the native tribes had first encountered non-Indian natives from the ancestries of Southern Miwok. There was already a trade existing between the Indian natives and another tribe known as the Mono Paiutes coming from the east side of the Sierra. The existence of the bond between the two tribes resulted into a complex culture of the natives. For over the years, its culture was developed with traditions, native songs, religion and political affiliation.

Another event of the Yosemite National Park History was the Mariposa Indian War. It was 20 years after 1833 when the first known entry by foreigners was made. Conflict began to arise in the Yosemite Valley in 1849 when thousands of miners came into the place upon the discovery of gold at the Sierra Nevada foothills. The non-natives fought against the intruders wanting to save their homeland from the miners. As a result, in order to end the conflict, the Mariposa Battalion was created under the authority of the State of California. It was a disciplinary expedition for the battalion to put an end of the war.

Another aspect of the Yosemite National Park History is the fact when early tourists have discovered the scenic views of Yosemite. These tourists were writers, artists and photographers who spread pictures and words about the Yosemite’s magnificence and urged the whole world to take part in their admiration of the place. It was James Hutchings who fell so much in love with the park and its valley that he became one of Yosemite’s first entrepreneurs upon realizing that he could make money out of tourism.

On June 30, 1864, a bill was signed by President Abraham Lincoln granting the Yosemite Valley and the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias as an absolute public trust. The bill was set for protecting the attraction spots of the park. On October 1, 1890, the Yosemite National Park was created. It was first administered by the Wawona military units and governed by the State of the California but the dual control ended on August 25, 1916, when the National Park service was organized and given authority by Congress to administer all national parks.

The Yosemite National Park history has influenced the park’s evolution and its present development that has attracted tourists for over 100 years.

Yosemite and How to Get There

You probably know that Yosemite is one of the most worth visiting places in the whole continent of America. It has been the object of respect and admiration for a number of years, so it’s no surprise that thousands of people from all over the United States and the world visit the place annually.

Yosemite was first inhabited by the Native Americans known by the name “Ahwahneechee”. It was declared as a National Park in the year 1890 through the efforts of John Muir, one of the earliest modern preservationists. From then on, travelers from all over the world come and explore the area for the great natural wonders it provides, including the tallest mountains with meadows, waterfalls, wildflowers, vistas at Glacier Point, and the historical communities that surround the region.

Now, do you want to see the place in person? If so, then I bet you’ll be interested to know how you can get there.

Getting to Yosemite is actually so easy. Almost all major modes of transportation are available. There are airports, tour buses and public transportation ready to serve passengers from anywhere on earth. But perhaps the best way to reach Yosemite is by car as the drive would only take about three hours and a half. Once you’re there, you get around by hiking. Yes, that’s the best way to explore the Yosemite region, especially the park. So if you are planning to visit Yosemite perhaps this coming Christmas vacation, be ready to hike.

However, for those who are not really athletic, you can get to Yosemite by taking the route to the Valley Floor-Yosemite Village Loop Trail, which is located just about two miles from the national park. Taking this route often delights travelers simply for one main reason – this valley offers the breathtaking views of the most stunning falls of the region, as well as the Royal Arches and the notable Half Dome.

Yosemite can also be reached trough another well-known trail, the Sentinel Dome Trail. This area is situated 1.2 mile hike from the national park, and what makes this trail worth trekking is that it offers views of the Half Dome, El Captain, and the towering falls of the region. And, if you find yourself a bit more ambitious, you have the chance to take the Half Dome Trail, which is actually an 8.2 miles hike from the national park. What’s exciting about taking this trail is that you’ll encounter strenuous climbs while on the road. This climb will get you exactly to the zenith of the park. You also have another choice, that is, to take the Yosemite Falls Loop Trail, which is a 7.8-mile hike combined with climbs, taking you to the Upper Yosemite Fall.

Well, if you are new to the place, there’s no other better way of reaching and exploring Yosemite than to ask help from the available guides servicing the area. They will surely help you enjoy your trek.

Whitewater Rafting In Yosemite

The Merced River is one of the most breath-taking venues of whitewater rafting in Yosemite. It is only about 3 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area. The Merced River offers great one-day and two-day rafting escapades. The start off point for the whitewater rafting in Yosemite is just around a few minutes away from the Yosemite National Park’s entrance. Thus, for those who want to experience the adrenaline rush, the Merced River is one place where you can experience Yosemite’s waterfalls at their grandeur.

The starting point of the Merced River lies on the south side of Mount Lyell, located within the Yosemite National Park. The river’s water runs through Yosemite Valley after splashing over the Vernal and Nevada Falls. The water proceeds towards the Sierra area and passes Highway 140 before flowing through the McClure Reservoir. The foothill canyon in the Sierra area has several rapids which, when the river’s flow goes beyond 4000 cfs, make the whitewater huge and powerful.

Whitewater rafting in Yosemite is not only fun when the river flow is at its highest. But high flows, those above 2000 cfs, allow people to raft from Red Bud Campground to Briceburg. This 15.6 mile-run involve two Class IV rapids, namely, the Nightmare Island and Chipped Tooth. The remainder of the run involves Class III rapids. Flows from 1200 to 2000 cfs are the medium flows. Runs on these conditions involve two more Classic IV rapids, specifically, Split Rock and Corner Pocket.

Merced River is not the only one that will give you rafting thrills. Whitewater rafting in Yosemite also means trips along the Tuolumne River. This is actually a Class IV to V rapids that has increasing force. This fine venue boasts of enchanting water patterns that are most rafters’ reason for repeat visits. Rafting along Tuolumne River will take you to the gripping Tuolumne Classic as well as the most daring run in North America – the Cherry Creek.

There are numerous whitewater rafting outfitters available on Merced and Tuolumne Rivers. If you wish to sign up for a trip, it would be advisable to search the internet regarding your options. Outfitters do not offer the same trips on whitewater rafting in Yosemite. Also, rafting season is usually crowded, so booking in advance is a good idea.

Some people can’t imagine braving the rapids. They’d rather sign up for slow rafting trips or those drift-rafting expeditions which are also offered in the Yosemite National Park. However, with lesser thrill, these trips do cost a lot. And while it sure is safer to raft in very calm waters, it doesn’t give you the fulfillment that whitewater rafting in Yosemite can.

Yosemite Vacation Tips

Many people who visit Yosemite have fallen into the trap of spending more money and time although not required. According to some claims, these areas are beautiful to see early in the morning and late in the afternoon. They are also great to visit for they are less crowded compared to the other wonderful sites in Yosemite.

Tip #2: Avoid Traffic Jams

If you want to go to those above mentioned wonders and you still find yourself staying along Highway 140, try to get aboard the Yosemite Area Transit buses to get into the National Park. Once you’re inside the park, you’ll find a number of shuttle buses and trams that take tourists to the popular stops mentioned earlier. So don’t miss these trips.

Tip #3: Know the Weather

Yosemite is often visited by thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon. So if you get caught in one and you are staying at higher elevations, avoid lightning rods. Look for a safe shelter. Don’t run through lone trees, and don’t ever stay in open places. If all else fails, try to lay down flat on the ground. That can be safe.

Tip #4: Stay and Sleep for Less

When on your Yosemite vacation, try not to spend much on lodging. You probably have seen it in pictures, or in person.

Well, the Yosemite Sentinel Dome is actually one of the most well-known areas of interest in Yosemite region. It is known throughout the state of California as one of the highest peaks in the state, and perhaps what’s nice to know about this attraction is that it is not only perfect for the adventurous pros.

The Sentinel Dome can be reached and enjoyed even by the amateurs as well.

The Yosemite Sentinel Dome is basically a dome made of granite. It lies on the south wall of the Yosemite Valley, approximately 1.4 miles from the northeastern part of the Profile Cliff and 0.8 mile southwest of the Glacier Point, another notable formation in Yosemite.

According to numerous resources, the Yosemite Sentinel Dome was first named as Sakkaduch by the Native Americans who happened to be the first inhabitants of the Yosemite region. The original name was changed into “South Dome” by the Bunnell Survey, and years later, another survey came out naming the place “Sentinel Dome” simply for the reason that this granite formation appears like a watch-tower.

What’s interesting to know about the Yosemite Sentinel Dome is that it offers the best views of the night sky. Also, you’ll get to see the entire Yosemite Valley and its surroundings when you’re on top. The other well-known attractions in the region, such as the Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Basket Dome, and North Dome are even accessible in sight. The area can give you a 360-degree view of these attractions, making it truly inviting.

The Yosemite Sentinel Dome is also best known for its Jeffrey Pine, which grew and stands on its peak. According to several claims, the pine is by far one of the most interesting things to see in Yosemite Sentinel Dome for the reason that it has been photographed and mentioned in books and travelogues by the earliest visitors. Several reports have in fact revealed that the Jeffrey Pine in Yosemite Sentinel Dome was first photographed by a person named Carleton Watkins as early as 1867.

That time, the tree was still on its perfect form; it died during the drought in 1976. But despite that fact, the Jeffrey Pine still remained standing at the top of the Yosemite Sentinel Dome until August 2003.

The Yosemite Sentinel Dome can now easily be reached by visitors through the hiking trails available around. The trails will actually bring you to the base of the structure after a 2.2 mile roundtrip hike. The trailhead is actually located 6 miles from the Glacier Point and Bridalveil Creek road. Well, Yosemite is about the wilderness, thus its no wonder that you’ll get to experience all about the wilderness, including steep mountains, waterfalls, miles of trails, meadows, granite cliffs, and much more.

However, although backpackers are left with all those choices of wonders to see, trekking the Yosemite mountains, meadows and trails can be one of the most dangerous adventures that backpackers can take. You’ll never know when a mishap will occur, or if your trip will turn out okay or bad. With this, it is very much important to exercise maximum safety when considering a Yosemite backpacking.

So, how do you keep yourself safe from any Yosemite backpacking incident?

Well, there are a lot of things you can do to make yourself safe from any possible consequences. In fact, this is just a matter of common sense. So make that sense active all the time.

For instance, it is always important to ready yourself before you go for your Yosemite backpacking trip. Accept the fact that the risks or dangers of the wilderness are part of your wilderness experience. The best thing you can do is to arm yourself with the best safety gears and techniques to protect yourself and your peers from possible harm. Simply put, pack all of your valuables according to what is really required or needed on your Yosemite backpacking trip. Some backpacking guides in Yosemite offer some list of things to pack for the trip, so make sure that you have all of them.

Watch out for the weather. You will never know when a sudden change in the weather may occur. In Yosemite, there is a great possibility that drenching thunderstorms may form in just a matter of hours. Snow can even fall any time. So if you are planning to go out for a Yosemite backpacking adventure, prepare yourself for all possible weather conditions. If, for instance, a storm hits your way, it would be best if you’ll stay away from peaks, especially when you’re trekking at Yosemite’s Half Dome. Also stay away from caves, water, ridges and open areas. Try to look for shelter in low forested areas, instead. You can even set up a camp in a location which you’re sure is safe for you to stay.

If you are going out for Yosemite backpacking trip early spring or summer, watch out for high water. During these seasons, Yosemite can be filled with melting snow which, in turn, can cause high water levels. That may even cause the swift flow of water in rivers and streams, so be careful when crossing. If possible, cross only in a wide shallow spot that is not totally affected by high water. And, note that water will be extremely cold, so take the right caution. If at the end of the day, you find yourself inflicted by a disease like tick borne diseases, it would be best if you’ll contact your doctor as soon as possible.

So simply, that’s it!

Yosemite Camping Reservations

So you’re a camping enthusiast? You love camping and you want to make sure that your camping vacation in Yosemite will turn out one of the best. Well, there’s no better way of making that possible than to consider Yosemite camping reservations.

The Yosemite camping reservations are designed and developed to be reserved in advance. However, there are some campgrounds that offer only the so-called “first come, first served” basis. This trend is very much common during summer in which about 400 campgrounds throughout Yosemite are available on such kind of service. But since, the first come, first served basis seemed like a matter of chance that you may need to arrive early for you to obtain the best camp site, many people consider Yosemite camping reservations a great alternative.

The Yosemite camping reservations are now offered in large numbers. About half of the region’s 500 campgrounds require their customers to do reservations before they make their visit. Well, with this availability, making reservations for camping activities in Yosemite can be a bit easy. All you need to do is to find the right campground and make your reservation based on what you need and prefer.

Typically, the Yosemite camping reservations are made available one month ahead at a given time. It is often suggested that if you want to obtain the best selection of camping sites, it would be best if you make your Yosemite camping reservations on the 15th of the month.

You can reserve camping sites in Yosemite in two best possible ways. First, the reservations can be done by telephone. All you need to do is to contact the National Park Service (NPS) through these numbers: (800) 436-7275, (301) 722-1257 or (888) 530-9796. The second most possible way of making your Yosemite camping reservations is to go online and use the Yosemite camping reservation system which is offered by the NPS themselves.

However, when making your camping reservations online, it is important to know first which camping site you really want to stay. Think about having at least two or three campgrounds in mind and try to compare them according to what they can offer. Also, consider your right choice based on the campground size. As you may know, the small campgrounds used to fill up first, but much to your surprise, they provide a more pleasant and smoke-free area during the evenings. And, note that when using the Yosemite camping reservation system online, you are only entitled to one camping site at a time.

If you’ve made the reservations based on the terms and conditions set by the reservation system, you are required to arrive on time especially on the first day. If you failed to come on a given date, it is important to contact the reservation site or else your Yosemite camping reservations will be cancelled.

Saying “I Do” is one of life’s greatest decisions. For most people, this is a turning point in their lives. And like most important events, the exchange of marriage vows requires careful planning.

The Yosemite National Park is home to some of nature’s supreme wonders. The scenic beauty of the place makes the perfect backdrop for any special event. Yosemite weddings have become more and more popular. Couples have discovered the perfect wedding setting amidst the magnificent company of nature.

For those who wish to have Yosemite weddings, the park requires couples to secure a Special Use Permit. The permit, which costs about $150.00, allows couples to hold their wedding ceremony in wedding areas within the Yosemite National Park. The Yosemite Valley is home to several options: The Lower Yosemite Fall may be the venue of Yosemite weddings but can only accommodate certain group sizes. Another nice area for Yosemite weddings is the sandy beach, north of the Merced River. It can accommodate a maximum of twenty people, but is available everyday of the year. Couple who need a larger venue may opt for the Cathedral Beach Picnic Area, which can cater to fifty people the most. The area is closed in the late afternoons, and in the months of November until April. The Sentinel Beach Picnic Area is another Yosemite weddings venue that is a good choice for those who want space for 100 people. However, this area is closed from November till April and at dusk everyday. This is also not usually available in the rafting season which runs from late May to the middle of August. The Bridalveil Falls provides a splendid background fro Yosemite weddings. This location accommodates 50 people and is open all-year-round.

There are numerous other alternative venues for Yosemite weddings within the park. Wawona has about four areas that are great wedding sites as well. These are: Wawona Point, Mariposa Grove Museum Area, Glacier Point, and Chilnualna Falls Trailhead Parking Lot. The latter though, is the only one available throughout the year.

The Tuolumne Meadows has its own share of fine wedding locations. These are only available though at the end of May until October. The Soda Springs, Tenaya Beach, and Tuolumne Lodge Area are among your choices in the Tuolumne area.

The permit issued for Yosemite Weddings does not give you the freedom to ban other park guests from going to your wedding location. The site should be one that is not frequented by park visitors to avoid other groups from walking in on your wedding.

Yosemite weddings are not unpopular that is why the park allows couples to book a yea in advance and to finalize wedding plans at least 21 days before the actual date. That is, if you don’t want to end up having it somewhere else.

Yosemite Ranch Restaurant

After a day of saddle-rides and uphill trekking, what better (and most appropriate) way to end the day than a sumptuous meal at a Yosemite ranch restaurant? So hold on to those cowboy boots and hat, and learn to say “yee-haw” like a true-blue cowboy.

The Bonnie B Ranch is one of Yosemite Ranch Restaurants available to those who want feel that luxury dining is out of place. For a more outback ambiance, the Bonnie B Ranch is ideally located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. For those who want to have the opportunity to move around, this Yosemite Ranch Restaurant is about 18 miles from the park’s south entrance and about an hour drive from Fresno. It is surrounded by several popular areas like Oakhurst, Mariposa, and Bass Lake, making it possible for them to offer guests a wide array of recreational activities.

It’s not everyday that some people have the opportunity to wake up and find horses grazing outside, with fishing ponds sparkling under the sunny skies as the perfect backdrop. The Bonnie B Ranch gives you that experience, and much more. The place has a “barn” atmosphere to it, and is a perfect place to have a feel of the country setting.

Another famous Yosemite ranch restaurant is the Sierra Sky Ranch. This more than a century-old mountain ranch has a rustic yet cozy atmosphere which guests find very appealing. The Sierra Sky Ranch is just about 10 miles from Yosemite National Park’s south entrance, and a short drive to Bass Lake, a famous tourist area. Aside from its dining services, the Sierra Sky Ranch is also known for providing guests with accommodations that have timeless charms.

The Branding Iron Steakhouse and Saloon is the Yosemite ranch restaurant housed within the Sierra Sky Ranch. It opens its door at 5:00 pm from Wednesdays till Sundays and reservations can be done by calling 559 658-2644. This Yosemite ranch restaurant serves food from appetizers, to salads, to the main dish, and down to the desserts. Its huge menu of steak dishes will make you want to go there for dinner every single night. Children will enjoy dining in this place too, as it has its own collection of Children’s Menu, perfect for those twelve-year olds and under. And who says the Grannies won’t like this Yosemite ranch restaurant as well? Their Senior Menu, which includes varied steak dishes, will surely delight those beyond 65 years old.

While the Yosemite area houses a couple of modern and luxurious dining places, people still find it more appealing to dress down for dinner and prefer Yosemite ranch restaurants instead. After all, when you decided to come to Yosemite to “rough it out”, you probably made sure you’re up for the challenges of the outback.

Tuolumne Meadows

Do you wish to avoid the throng of people at the Yosemite Valley? You don’t have to wait the next season just to experience climbing in the Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows has its share of routes that will take you on top of several domes. Although Yosemite Valley has bigger walls than that of Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows, the latter is still home to numerous trails with varied lengths, that all make for a great climb.

The elevation is Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows is about 8619 feet, and because of this, climbing activities are restricted to the months of June until August. There are a lot of major domes in the area, such as: Stately Pleasure Dome with route high at 400 feet and takes about an hour to 2.5 hours to climb; Lembert Dome which stands 800 feet; Polly Dome with ending elevation at 8,350 feet and about 3 miles one-way; Daff Dome which can be climbed at an average of 2-4 hours with route height at 700 feet; Fairview Dome’s 900 feet route high takes about 6-8 hours climb; Pothole Dome is a miniature version of the Lembert Dome which is highly accessible to kids; Mariolumne Dome; Tenaya Peak has a gigantic route height at 1500 feet and requires about 5-7 hours climb time; Medlicott Dome can be reached within 2 hours average with route height at 610 feet; and Pywiack Dome with a height route at 400 feet, takes about 2-4 hours of climb.

Following Tioga Road takes you to Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows. This road is about 39 miles, located amidst forests, lakes, meadows, and granite domes. The Tioga Road, built in 1882 till 1883 to serve as a mining road, was renovated and given a modern-look in 1961. It provides passers-by one of the most beautiful views in the Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows is around 55 miles from Yosemite, which is equivalent to a 90-minute drive. One of the most distinctive features of the area is the Tuolumne River. This winding river compliments the existence of splendid peaks and breathtaking domes in Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows. Access to the area is provided through a journey along the Tioga Road. However, this road is closed to all types of vehicles except during the summer. This does not mean that Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows is off limits throughout the rest of the year. There are actually ski huts available that are mostly used by skiers.

Climbing in Yosemite doesn’t just mean being in Yosemite Valley. The park has other areas that offer fascinating features as well. Yosemite’s Tuolumne Meadows is just one of the many areas that make it possible for people to enjoy the same activities at different “levels”.

Cedar Lodge in Yosemite

It’s hard not to fall in love with the Yosemite National Park. While it is the highlight of your travel, it is not the only one that can provide you with fond memories. The Cedar Lodge in Yosemite offers some more reasons to enjoy your stay.

Curry Village Yosemite

Also known as Camp Curry, the Curry Village Yosemite is one of the largest lodging facilities available in Yosemite Valley. It was founded in 1899 by the two school teachers from Indiana, David and Jenny Curry. The idea for the foundation actually came out when the pair recognized that they could not afford the fare of the coach running into the Yosemite National Park and the charge for lodging in the park. Knowing that other visitors may also realize such fact, they established the Curry Village Yosemite, offering affordable lodging rates.

Curry Village Yosemite currently offers a wide selection of lodging options. Included in the list are motels, cabins that are equipped and not equipped with private restrooms, and a few tent cabins without plumbing. With this large selection, the Curry Village Yosemite is considered by both locals and tourists alike as the most popular lodging options in the Yosemite National Park.

Speaking of lodging options, Curry Village Yosemite now boasts five major types of facilities available for their guests to stay. These options include the following:

Standard Motel Rooms: Nestled at the Stoneman House, the motel rooms of Curry Village Yosemite come full equipped with one, two or three double beds and private baths. Also, if you want a maid service while staying there, the standard motel rooms of Curry Village Yosemite offer a daily maid service. There is even heating amenities, but telephone or televisions are not included.

Cabins with Bath: The cabins in Curry Village Yosemite are built from wood. They are furnished with one double, one double and one single, or two double beds; electric wall heaters; dresser and desk; as well as electric lights and outlets. Just like the standard motel rooms, television and telephones are not provided. What’s nice about these cabins is that they are all built with outdoor patios or decks, giving the guests a place to stay for a relaxing evening or afternoon. Daily maid services, blankets and linens are also available.

Cabins without Bath: Also built from woods, the cabins without bath provide guests a place to stay for a Yosemite vacation. These cabins have dresser, two double beds, and propane heating, but they do not have telephones, televisions, and plumbing. They also offer a daily maid service, blankets and linens.

Specialty Cabins: These options are generally similar to the cabins mentioned above. The main difference is that these cabins have one or two bedrooms, a sitting area, fireplaces and television.

Canvas Tent Cabins: These cabins are generally canvas-covered and are wood-framed on a raised wooden platform. According to claims, these can accommodate about five people. Also, these options are equipped with beds and linens, and electrical lights. There are no daily maid service, telephone, plumbing, electric outlets, and televisions, however.

Note that the rates for such lodging options provided by the Curry Village Yosemite usually vary from $74 to $120. You can also book your stay at this place through reservations.

Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite

A classic accommodation situated amidst the forest is the perfect highlight for a Yosemite travel.

The Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite serves as an active part of the scenic Yosemite backdrop ever since 1921. It did not start out as a place to house tourists; instead, it was initially built as a means to assist in the construction of the O’Shaunessey Dam. It also served as a restaurant, a post office, and a store. Even in the early years of the Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite, people gather for dances, ice cream, or simply meet at the watering hole. Now, it is still host to several people; international, guests, rock climbing enthusiasts, park rangers, and locals.

There are four cabin types in the Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite. While each is uniquely different from the other, all of them provide guests with a relaxing and casual atmosphere. The Traditional Cabins can house two-three individuals and are a good choice for couples or those who are traveling alone. The original traditional cabins have all been renovated in January 2006 and provide covered front porches and the least expensive rates. The Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite built new traditional cabins in 2004 which are popular for their private decks fronting nature.

The One-Bedroom Cottages of the Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite is perfect for couples and small families. It can occupy two to four guests and features a queen-sized bed in the bedroom, a living room containing a sofa bed, its own deck with view of the woods, and a large bathroom.

The Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite has Family Cabins that are a good choice for small and large families. It can be occupied by four to six people with the New Two Bedroom Cabins which were built in 2004, housing two bedrooms containing a queen-sized bed and two twin beds respectively, a living room with a sofa bed, its own deck, and a huge bathroom. The old Family Cabins which were all renovated in January 2006 house a single room with a queen and a bunk bed, a sting area, private bath, and a covered porch.

The Custom Camping in the Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite is for those who want to bond with nature. It can accommodate one to three people. Custom Camping means staying inside meshed-topped tents set amongst the trees in the area. Guests are provided with fully set-up tents with pillows, sleeping bags, towels, toiletries, air beds, and lanterns. They also have a bathhouse which was built in 2005.

Among the many accommodation alternatives available, only Evergreen Lodge in Yosemite can provide you with the utmost hospitality, unmatched warm and relaxed atmosphere, and a close encounter with Mother Nature without the hassles.

Half Dome In Yosemite

Yosemite National Park may be made famous by its share of majestic waterfalls, but the Half Dome is clearly the park’s most distinct natural treasure.

This very popular landmark is believed to be the other half of a granite wall that crumbled during the Ice Age. Whether this theory is true or not, it does not change the fact that the Half Dome in Yosemite used to be totally impossible to climb. Over the years, people have found ways to ascend to its peak. Most of them were able to reach the summit by hiking a trail that starts from the valley floor. The roundabout route is approximately 8.5 miles with the last ascent done by following metal cables put up on posts. The final route involving the cables was constructed in the year 1919.

The Half Dome in Yosemite stands more than 4500 feet above the Yosemite Valley floor and has an elevation of 8,842 feet. The climb to the peak of the Half Dome in Yosemite is very long, about 8.5 miles, and very steep at an elevation of 5,000 feet. A backpacker campground which is very crowded and would require permit, can be found approximately halfway up. Although most people go to and from the Half Dome in Yosemite in one day, the Little Yosemite Valley or the campground is mostly always full of people. Those who have been used to hiking may require seven to ten hours to get to and from the Half Dome in Yosemite. But people who are less experienced may take more than 12 hours to finish the roundtrip.

It is not unusual for some people to decide foregoing to climb the remainder of the trail to the Half Dome in Yosemite. But even if you don’t get to the top like the others, the first half of the trail is consolation enough. The Mist Trail provides outstanding views that will make your attempt more than worth your time and effort.

Starting your hike to the Half Dome in Yosemite early is highly advisable, especially for those who intend to go back down on the same day. The downhill trek may not be as grueling as the hike up, but is certainly not easy at all. The trip back wouldn’t be so much faster then the climb either. That is why it is very important to leave early for the Half Dome in Yosemite if you want to avoid hiking in the dark.

Mother Nature has again showed us what she is capable of creating, and one of her best expressions of beauty can be seen through the Half Dome in Yosemite. This landmark more than wants you to view it from your car window. It beckons everyone to come closer.

High Sierra Camps in Yosemite

Backpacking is exciting, more so when you experience being in the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite.

For nature and hike enthusiasts, a trip to the Yosemite National Park is much more of a thrilling adventure if they camp out rather than stay in luxurious mountain resorts. Each of the five camps is uniquely set up to give its visitors a splendid view and a good deal of opportunity to explore the surrounding areas. However, these can be bought from the High Camp Stores or from the Tuolumne Meadows Store.

One of the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite is the Merced Lake. It is situated at a lower elevation along one of Yosemite’s biggest lakes. The temperature there is slightly warmer and different types of vegetation can be seen. This camp houses 19 cabins that can be occupied by up to sixty guests. It can accommodate the most number of guests in the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite.

The Vogelsang is considered as most guests’ favorite among the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite. It houses 12 cabins set amongst peaks, lakes, and meadows.

The Glen Aulin which means “beautiful valley” lives up to its name. With its eight cabins, guests of High Sierra Camps in Yosemite are taken on a breathtaking site of a waterfall and clear pool.

Another of the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite is the May Lake, which is the most accessible camp, requiring just a mile hike from the parking lot in the Tioga Road. Its eight cabins are perfect for families.

The Sunrise Camp of the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite is named for its splendid sunrise view. The nine cabins can provide guests with the incredible views.

So who says posh hotels and resorts offer the best vacation experience? Nothing brings you closer to nature than being in their midst. Certainly, the High Sierra Camps in Yosemite make backpacking a more thrilling experience.

Horseback Riding In Yosemite

Put on your boots and cowboy hat. The Redwoods in Yosemite is open to visitors everyday throughout the year.

The mountain home rentals in the Redwoods in Yosemite are divided into three categories to help guests choose which cabin is right for them. The Category E stands for economy accommodation. These are the rentals that house at least one bedroom and one bathroom. While this type means the most affordable, the cabins under this are still equipped with the basic furnishings and also adhere to the standard requirements. The Category S is used to mean the standard type of lodging. These too must have at least one bedroom and one bathroom, but all have amenities that go beyond the standard requirements set for cabins. The last, and certainly not the least, is the Category P. The premium rentals must also have one bedroom and one bathroom at least, but all cabins under this type provide the most outstanding amenities, and are spacious than the others as well.

The Redwoods in Yosemite requires visitors to rent the cabins for at least two nights. For those who wish to cancel their reservations, a 10-day notice prior the check-in date is required. A $20 administrative fee however, is charged against the deposit amount. A 30-day cancellation notice is necessary during the peak season.

Every rental in the Redwoods in Yosemite can be occupied by a corresponding number of guests. Rates are dependent on the number of people staying in each of the homes. Charged guests are those who are four years old and above. It is actually considered as the centerpiece of the Yosemite National Park, so it’s no wonder that people who visit to see the Park also visit to see the Valley.

The Yosemite Valley is basically a half-mile deep depression that emerged as a result of the glaciers attack during the last ice age. From that origin, the Yosemite Valley now soars up to 3,000 feet high granite domes complemented by the towering and stunning waterfalls. Three of the world’s highest waterfalls are in fact located at the Valley.

There are a lot of wonders to see in the Yosemite Valley. The Merced River, in the first place, flows across the flat floor of the area at about 4,000 feet of elevation above sea level. Also, the floor of the valley highlights the towering oak trees with a combination of the conifer woodlands and meadows. These areas are inhabited mainly by a diversity of wildlife. So if the diverse habitat of the Yosemite National Park is one of the reasons for your visit, then there’s no other way to go than to the Yosemite Valley.

In addition, the Valley is surrounded by steeps and vertical cliffs made of granite. The most celebrated cliffs in this area include the Half Dome, El Capitan monolith, and the Glacier Point. As mentioned earlier, all of these wonders are even complemented by the sites of waterfalls that tumble down into the base of the Valley. The most famous of these falls are the Yosemite Fall, Bridalveil, Nevada, vernal and Illilouette. According to some claims, these falls tend to reach their maximum flow during the late spring and their flow drops significantly as the season from late spring continues.

Perhaps what’s more interesting to know about the Yosemite Valley is that it offer access to a number of services, activities and facilities that people may need while staying there. One of the most visited is the Valley Visitor Center where a number of publications, orientation films, and theater programs are exhibited for the people to see. If you are the type who loves adventure trekking, you can find guides nearby who are willing to take and introduce you to the greatest wonders of the Valley. And, if you are wondering where on the Yosemite Valley you can stay while on vacation or holiday, you have the choice to select among the four available lodging facilities in the area, including the Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge, Curry Village, and Housekeeping Camp.

With so much wonders available in the area, the Yosemite Valley has received the National Park status in 1880. This designation was also brought about by the strong efforts of John Muir, a pioneering Scottish naturalist who led the preservation of the Yosemite wilderness. Since that time, the Yosemite Valley has grown in popularity that today the United States and other countries outside the American continent show admiration and awe to its wonders.

Yosemite Hotels

Planning to visit Yosemite National Park? Want to enjoy everything that the place has to offer in the ultimate way possible? Well, if your answer to these questions is yes, then it would be best if you’ll consider Yosemite reservations.

The Yosemite reservations are considered and offered for several good reasons. In the first place, Yosemite is visited by more than 3 millions of people in a whole year. Most of these visitors come not only from the United States, but from other areas outside America. So thinking about 3 millions each year, it would be no surprise that almost all of the hotels, inns, and tours are fully booked. This is very much possible especially during the peak seasons, when people from all over the world flocked to Yosemite just to witness and enjoy everything that the place has to offer.

Another possible reason for the consideration of Yosemite reservations is that many people who wish to visit the place want to arrive without hassles. Finding an area to stay in Yosemite can be a bit difficult as only few accommodations are available near the Yosemite National Park. And it would be more hassling if you’ll arrive there without any idea of what hotels or inns have available accommodations. This also holds true when it comes to finding guides that will accompany you on your camping and hiking trips.

So if you are planning to visit Yosemite for more than a day, book for Yosemite reservations as early as possible. A lot of outlets where you can book for your Yosemite reservations are available nowadays. What’s nice to know is that you can find Yosemite reservations even online, with a number of sites out there offering such kind of service. So your job now is to look for these sites.

When considering Yosemite reservations online, always make sure to read all the details included. Note that not all Yosemite reservations are designed and offered equal. Also, the companies in Yosemite have the right to cancel a particular reservation without prior notice. This is true especially at times when they become aware that certain kinds of illegal activity are associated with the reservation. So before you consider a particular service, know all their terms and conditions first, including their booking policies.

It is further important to make deposits when asking for Yosemite reservations. Deposits are actually one of the integral parts of the booking transaction. All reservations entail payment usually of the first night rate as a form of deposit. There are even some packages which require full payment at the moment you ask and make for reservations. Most of the time, these deposits do not include taxes. So don’t be surprised when a company asks you for tax charges.

Having said all that, it is then very important to plan your Yosemite vacation as carefully as possible. Consider your reservation as one of the most critical parts of the planning process.

Upper Yosemite Falls

The views from the photographs of the Upper Yosemite Falls are all very impressive. How much more when you’re actually there?

Even if it would mean more than six miles of uphill climbing, the view from the top of the Upper Yosemite Falls is well worth the steep hike. Once on top, you can’t get enough of the beauty that unfolds right before your eyes. Pictures may capture the view, colors and all. But it would never be able to define the sense of personal fulfillment that every hiker gets.

The Upper Yosemite Falls stands 1430 feet, but together with the Lower Yosemite Falls, they comprise the top five highest waterfalls in the world. Water that comes from the Yosemite Creek drops from the Upper Yosemite Falls and down to the Lower one in a wind-blown spray, drenching the nearby areas. Spring is the best time to see the grandeur of the Upper Yosemite Falls, with the abundant supply of melting snow. The water decreases to a trickle in some parts of the year and may even go completely dry during the later part of summer.

When the water is in a great abundance, it makes the sound of the Upper Yosemite Falls boom all over the valley. For those who are not up to the grueling six-mile (approximately 3 hours) climb to the top of the Upper Yosemite Falls, there is an area just past Columbia Rock, about a mile and a half climb from the base, which provides one of the best views of the Upper Yosemite Falls.

The trail from the Valley Floor to the Rim is actually among the steepest. Several accidents happen along this trail when hikers slip on drenched rocks or loose gravel. A lot of people also slip in the area reached by the misty spray from the waterfalls. The sprayed trail may not be a long one but nevertheless, it poses more danger with all the potential slips and falls. The initial half of the hike is an 80% shaded climb. This is particularly something everyone can thank for on summer days. Imagine how hot the remaining half can be.

Trekking to the Upper Yosemite Falls is best started early. Almost everyone who has reached its peak wanted to spend more than an hour to enjoy the view and take a dip in the Yosemite Creek. Although the creek is definitely tempting, people should think twice about taking a dip in spring when the current is too fast.

Coming down from the Upper Yosemite Falls is just as hard as in going up. Most accidents happen when hikers are in a hurry to reach the base, tired from the long hike up. But despite all the bruises and scratches from falls, it definitely leaves us with good memories and rolls of films to develop.

Yosemite Accommodations

Climb to your heart’s content or ride the rapids till you get tired of it. A lot…It’s not even enough time to actually see all that the place has to offer. Unless you forego sleeping, you might just be able to cover all 1,200 square miles of beautiful land that was preserved since 1890.

A lot of tour operators can be found online and are offering several two-day tour packages. To know more about these tours you may click on the following links:

buysanfranciscotours.com

calpartours.com

starlinetours.com

The Yosemite National Park has the most number of guests in the months of June, July and August, while the months from December to February bring in the least number. Even if the Yosemite National Park is open to guests 24 hours everyday the whole year round, there are places that are best visited in certain parts of the year.

For the Summer Season (June to September), the park is filled with tourists All the park areas can be accessed by car in the later part of the season, although most of its waterfalls either have low flows or are totally dry.

The Fall Season (October and November) draws in a few guests. While all the areas are open throughout the season, you can expect occasional closures in some parts due to snow.

The Winter Season (December to March) is not such a good time to visit Yosemite as some roads are closed. Those that are open or are accessible by vehicles require guests to bring along tire chains.

Spring Season (April and May) is the ultimate time to see the waterfalls. While the Tioga and the Glacier Point Roads may remain inaccessible until the late Spring, it is still a good time to visit the park as water flow abundantly even in small waterfalls and creeks.

The time of your visit will dictate the sights you have to see in your two-day tour. But for those who haven’t planned out their travel, here are a few good ideas: Yosemite Falls are a must because the two falls (the upper and lower), are actually the country’s highest.

It stands 2425 feet; El Capitan is a granite wall with a height of 4000 feet; Glacier Point, situated 3215 above the base of the valley, provides one of the best views of the Yosemite Valley, Yosemite Falls, the Vernal and Nevada Falls, plus that of the Half Dome; Half Dome which stands 8,840 feet is made up of a certain granite and is believed to have been torn in half during the Ice Age.

Two days will seem like an hour once you get there. All the sights will require you to be there for more than just a few minutes. Anyway, you’re always welcome for another visit.
